About the writer

My hope is that 'As Told by the Writer' will be a window to worlds where animals speak, stars whisper secrets and everyday children discover extraordinary adventures and experiences. It would be extremely rewarding to me if these stories encourage a lifelong love of reading while expanding a child's imagination. Enjoy exploring these captivating and enchanting stories.

Meet the Author

I assume the nom de plume of Evelyn Atwater when creating children's stories. When not weaving stories about the Australian bush and the animals and characters who live there, I often savour a freshly brewed strong black coffee whilst in the company of family and friends. My gorgeous, playful and loyal dog Evie, whose traits inspire many of my characters, is always by my side.
I enjoy studying people, animals, objects and situations through the lens of curiosity and playfulness. I tend to integrate some deep-rooted emotional truths into fantastical and often unexpected whimsical scenarios.
My writing studio is wherever the 'writing bug' strikes me. I grew up with brothers, a sister and parents, playing and working on the family property in western Queensland. Mine was a magical childhood and I really hope my writing reflects these extra-ordinary years in my life.
I am innately curious about where animal tracks lead and how people live and thrive in the bush, especially as 'animals live and breathe their very own secret lives', when I am not looking, of course!
I reside in Toowoomba, Queensland-amongst an awe-inspiring collection of well-loved storybooks.
